Riya Chakraborty was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with the Sushant case. His attorneys didn’t even get bail that day. The magistrate granted 14 days of judicial custody.
Riya Chakraborty was sent to the prison on Tuesday night. The lawyers will reapply for bail in Session Court on Wednesday.
Rhea was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) around 4 p.m. Tuesday. He was later examined at the Sign Hospital in Mumbai. From there they took him back to the NCB office. Riya Chakraborty appeared before the magistrate the same day via videoconference.
Pretrial detention will not be required on behalf of NCB, Deputy General MA Jain had previously said. After 14 days of judicial custody, it was demanded on behalf of NCB. It is granted.
The NCB said in its official statement that what Riya said in her statement was enough to arrest her. We have evidence when we arrest him.
MA Jain also clarified that Riya was not seized prohibited drugs. The NCB did not say what kind of evidence was found from behind. The investigation is ongoing, so there is no comment, MA Jain said.
Riya Chakraborty was arrested under Sections 6 (c), 20 (b), 26 (a), 26 and 29 of the NDPS Act of India. The most notable of the sections that the NCB has filed against Rear under the NDPS Act is Section 27 (a), a criminal conspiracy charge, which, if proven, would carry a minimum sentence of 10 years.
In addition to being arrested by the NCB in the drug case, Riya Chakraborty is also the main defendant in the FIRs of two other central agencies in the Sushant case. The CBI is investigating the case of Sushant’s death, while the Emergency Department is investigating the embezzlement case.
