Six people, including his wife Ayesha Siddique Minni, have been sentenced to death in the much discussed murder case of Shahnawaz Rifat Sharif in Barguna. The other four defendants in the case were acquitted.
District Judge and Barguna Sessions on Wednesday. Ashaduzzaman announced the verdict.
It can be mentioned that on June 26 of last year, Rifat’s father, Abdul Halim Sharif, filed a murder case with the Barguna police station on June 26 of last year, after young men beat to death Rifat Sharif in the presence of his wife Minni in front of the Barguna Government College.
Minni became the main witness. The main defendant in the case, Sabbir Ahmed aka Nayan Bond, was killed in a shootout with police on July 2 of that year. Soon after, the scene began to change. On social media, many people blamed Minni for the murder.
Rifat’s father held a press conference on July 13, 18 days after the case, alleging that Minni was involved in the murder. In fact, the discussion surrounding the murder case was intensified by the fact that Minni happened to be accused by a witness. The verdict in the case shows that Rifat’s wife, Minni, is the mastermind of the murder.
The murder of Rifat shows us the stage of social degradation. The court found that Rifat’s murder was heinous and disgusting. Minni was involved in the murder plot.
She went to save her husband at the time of the incident, it seems to have been a sympathy strategy. Minnie seems to have tried to dissuade Nayan Bond instead of protecting her husband when he was angry at Rifat.
The murder was planned by him and Minni. Before the murder, Minni had spoken with the main defendant in the case, Nayan Bond, 44 times a month and Nayan Bond 16 times by phone. Also, they have both exchanged text messages many times.
It cannot be denied that the culture of impunity in the country is one of the reasons for the increase in crime. From there, it can be said that the verdict in the Rifat Sharif murder case has been announced fairly quickly. Minni’s father has said he will appeal the verdict in higher court.
We hope the case will be resolved soon. This will punish the real culprits and discourage heinous crimes like murder, which is desirable.
