A parliamentary committee of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works recommended demolishing a restaurant in the capital’s Ramna Park and opening a cafeteria. Apart from this, it is recommended to demolish all non-design structures and ruined buildings in the park area, except the mosque. The recommendation was made at a committee meeting held in Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday.
According to interested sources, at the previous meeting, the committee had expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work on the Ramna Park infrastructure development and beautification project.
In a meeting last September, the commission’s chairman, Mosharraf Hossain, said that for a long time the design preparation work including the allocation of funds was final, but only the construction of the walkway has been carried out. The environment in the park area is constantly polluted as there is a Chinese restaurant and a party center. There are no restaurants in the great parks of the world. At the meeting, the chief engineer of the public works department was asked to take steps to build an open cafeteria.
According to interested sources, a project worth around Rs 47 million was carried out in 2016 for the development of the Ramna Park infrastructure. The work is expected to be completed in December this year. But the work progress has been 15 percent until last June.
