Two people were killed in a collision between a truck and a motorcycle in Barisal. In addition, five more people died in road accidents in Bhangura from Pabna, Jagatpur from Habiganj, Agrabad from Chittagong, Kaliganj from Jhenaidah and Sherpur.

According to Sylhet’s office, the bus called ‘London Express’ was going to Sylhet from Dhaka with 31 passengers. And the ENA Paribahan bus was going from Sylhet to Dhaka. There were 11 riders. Six of them died on the spot. Rahima Begum and Nadeem Ahmad Sagar died at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Several injured passengers said that the London Express bus crossed the Rashidpur bridge and headed to the right side and collided with the ENA Paribahan bus coming from the opposite direction. The two buses were crushed. The victims were trapped on the bus for about half an hour after the accident. Later, hearing the screams, the people of the area came forward.

Sheikh Mohammad Rahel, a passenger on the London Express, said: “Our driver was driving very fast. We were trapped on the bus for about half an hour after the accident.

Another London Express passenger said: ‘The driver was passing another car at reckless speed after leaving Dhaka. A few times we have noticed. But he didn’t listen to us.

Kobad Ali Sarkar, Deputy Director of Sylhet Fire and Civil Defense Service, said: “The London Express bus left the left side and went to the right side. Going to the right, Anna from the opposite direction pushed the bus. I assume the London Express driver lost control while crossing the bridge. The bus took the wrong lane.

Meanwhile, a serious traffic jam was created on the Sylhet-Dhaka Highway after the accident. The vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road for about three kilometers. After the rescue operation by the police and firefighters, traffic on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway normalized around 9:30 am.
