The road to the playoffs cannot be said to be absolutely smooth. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore further intensified the play-off battle. At the same time, Kolkata Knight Riders has some advantages. Because with 14 points, the road was paved for the two teams to reach the play-offs.

Despite losing to Sunrisers in Sharjah on Saturday, Virat Kohli remained second on the league list. Despite 14 points from 13 games, the net run rate fell from +0.48 to -0.145. The Sunrisers, by contrast, have moved from seventh to fourth in the league table with a victory. David Warner has 12 points from the same number of games. The Sunrisers’ net run rate (+0.555) is very good if three more teams have the same points.

Kings XI Punjab (-0.133), Rajasthan Royals (-0.38) and KKR (-0.48) are currently fifth, sixth and seventh on the league list with 12 points from 13 matches. However, KKR has a chance to go to the play-offs. Delhi Capitals ranks third with 14 points (-0.159).

Take a look at KKR’s play-off destination:

1) Hyderabad won against Bangalore. But if they lose to the Mumbai Indians, David Warner will have 12 points. In that case, they will not be able to reach the play-off. If Punjab loses the last match, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata (with a win against Rajasthan) will advance to the play-offs. The winner of the match between Delhi and Bangalore will be the second to reach the play-offs. In third and fourth place will be KKR and Delhi or Bangalore (the team that loses the match).

2) Bangalore had 14 points when the Giants lost to Sunrisers. In that case, the team that wins the match between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore will be the second team to advance to the play-offs. Then the battle for the other two places will be between Kolkata, Punjab, Bangalore or Delhi (whichever team loses), Rajasthan and Hyderabad. If the Sunrisers win against Mumbai, they will advance to the play-offs as third with a good run rate. If Chennai Super Kings lose to Punjab, KKR and RCB or Delhi will fight for fourth place.

3) Even if Punjab wins against Chennai Super Kings, the play-off door will remain open against KKR (assuming victory against Rajasthan). In that case, the battle for the two seats will be between Delhi or Bangalore (the losing team), Punjab, Kolkata and Hyderabad. If the Sunrisers win against Mumbai, they will go to the play-offs as a third team. In that case, the battle for a place will be between Delhi or Bangalore (the losing team), Punjab and Kolkata. If the Sunrisers lose to Mumbai, the Warners will be eliminated. There will be a fight for two places between Delhi or Bangalore (the losing team), Punjab and Kolkata.
