The microbus driver SM Darus Salam has testified in court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in relation to the murder of mountaineer Reshma Nahar Ratna.

Police arrested driver SM Darus Salam from Shahjahanpur in the capital on August 28. A Toyota minibus was also seized during the arrest. He also owns the car. The following day, Dar es Salaam was placed in preventive detention for two days.

Deputy Police Inspector Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Mubarak Ali, who is investigating the case, brought it to court on Sunday after pre-trial detention. At that time, the accused voluntarily agreed to make a confessional statement and the investigator requested a record.

Following the request, Dhaka Devdas Metropolitan Magistrate Chandra Adhikari recorded the defendant’s statement under article 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Judge 8 then ordered him to be sent to jail

Imrul Hasan, a lawyer from Darussalam, requested bail. The judge set Monday (August 31) for a hearing on the bail request.

Police arrested a driver named Mohammad Naeem on August 18 in the same incident. The following day, the court granted Naeem a two-day pretrial detention. Naeem was sent to jail on August 22 after his pretrial detention. Naeem is currently in jail. At the end of pretrial detention, Naeem did not give any confessional statements under section 164. CCTV footage showed Naeem’s car and Darussalam’s car side by side. So he was also arrested and placed in preventive detention.
