‘Rape’ with seven people for marrying elsewhere

A young man named Sumon Mia has been accused of gang-raping seven people after failing to marry his girlfriend in Chandina, Comilla.

Sohail, 30, son of Manu Miah, Abu Musa, 19, son of Abu Shaheen from Harikhola Mazar Bari and Sanaullah, 35, son of Motaleb Miah from Mohanpur village.

According to local sources, Sumon Meer met a worker at a textile factory in Chandina. After a three-month love affair, the 27-year-old married elsewhere.

At 8pm on Friday, Sumon Mia called her girlfriend and told her that her husband had been detained. Upon receiving the news, his lover Chandina came to the Harikhola shrine area and met Sumon Mia. At that moment, when the lover wanted to find her husband, Sumon gave him to seven young men and left. Later, seven young men took her to the pond and raped her.

Chandina Police Officer in Charge Shamsuddin Mohammad Elias said there was a rape case against eight people, including her boyfriend Sumon Mia and seven rapists, on Monday.

He said: ‘I arrested seven people, including my boyfriend Sumon, in the night. During preliminary questioning, they confessed to the rape.
