A 25-year-old woman was reportedly raped in Noakhali’s Dwip Upazila Hatia. Police arrested a young man named Yusuf Dubai (40) in the incident.
Yusuf is the son of Anis Miah from Harni Union in Dubai’s Hatia upazila.
The victim also filed a case under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act at the Hatia Police Station on Friday afternoon. Subsequently, the police arrested the defendants from the Harni area in upazila. He was sent to the district jail through court on Saturday afternoon.
The victim said that Yusuf Dubai from the same village raped her while she was sleeping, threatening her with a gun. After the rape, he promised to marry me and give me the dignity of a wife.
In this promise, he has sex every day as husband and wife for four months. At one point, the woman became pregnant.
When the matter was reported to Dubai, he tactfully took me to a hospital in Noakhali district city, operated on me and destroyed the fetus. When the fact became known, a social arbitration meeting was held in the area.
The marriage was decided at the meeting, then he accused Yusuf Dubai, admitted the mistake and promised marriage. After accepting the decision socially, he no longer marries me because of his power.
Hatia OC Mohammad Abul Khair Police Station said a rape case had been registered based on the victim’s allegations. The defendant Yusuf alias Dubai was arrested in an operation immediately after the case.
