Gazipur Sreepure female patient (25) charged with rape. The police arrested a doctor named Nurul Islam Sheikh (48). He was arrested on Tuesday (September 29) afternoon. Earlier on Sunday (September 26), the woman filed a lawsuit against Dr. Nurul Islam Sheikh and one of his associates at the Sreepur Police Station.
The arrested Nurul Islam Sheikh is the managing director and physician of the Bangladesh Norwegian Friendship Hospital adjacent to the Rajendrapur Cantonment in Gazipur. He is the son of Abdur Rahman Sheikh from Janakur village under Joydebpur Police Station in Gazipur Sadar upazila.
The victim’s village house is in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh. She rented a job at a local garment factory in the Dhaladia area of Sreepur.
Referring to the case, Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (CO) Khandaker Imam Hossain said the woman went to Nurul Islam Sheikh’s Bangladesh Norwegian Friendship Hospital on September 20 for treatment. She went home that day with blood and urine samples based on the doctor’s advice.
The next day, the woman was informed that the sample given earlier had been damaged, so she had to give the sample again. Later, on September 21 at noon, the woman left for the hospital to donate blood. As soon as she left the house, she saw Nurul Islam Sheikh and 2/3 of her associates standing by the side of the Rajendrapur-Kapasia highway in the Dhaladia area. They saw him and told him to go to the hospital and offered to get in the car.
When they got into the car in good faith, they did not take him to the hospital but instead took him to Nurul Islam Sheikh’s bungalow next to the local Dhaladia College. Later, Nurul Islam Sheikh took her to a room in the bungalow and raped her, threatening to kill her. When the incident came to light, he was released with death threats.
OC Khandaker Imam Hossain said the woman filed a rape case at the Sreepur police station on Sunday after discussing the matter with her relatives. Later on Tuesday afternoon, the defendant Nurul Islam Sheikh was arrested in the Joydebpur area. An attempt is also being made to arrest his accomplice.
