Rape of a young woman at MC College: DNA report in the hands of the police

The DNA report reached the police two months after the incident of raping the wife while her husband was tied up in the dormitory at MC College in Sylhet. The report found participation of some of the arrested defendants, but it is not yet known how many were involved.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) BM Ashraf Ullah Taher confirmed receiving the DNA report on Sunday.

He said the DNA report had reached the investigating officer on the case. Now the next process is underway. Previously, the police had said that it was not possible to file a charge sheet in this sensational case because the DNA report was not received. ADC BM Ashraf Ullah Taher said the charge sheet will be issued as soon as the DNA report is available.

Previously, DNA samples were collected from 6 people arrested in the case on October 1 and 3. After collecting samples at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet, they were sent to the Dhaka Lab. From there, the sample test report reaches the court first. The report was later turned over to the investigating officer.

The girl was gang-raped in the MC College dormitory in the Baluchar area of ​​Sylhet on the night of September 25. That same night, the victim’s husband filed a case at the city’s Shahparan Police Station. After this incident, an intense movement against rape began throughout the country. The government also amended the anti-rape law, maintaining the death penalty provision under pressure from public opinion.

According to the case file, a young man from the Jainpur area of ​​South Surma went to visit Shahparan Mazar in a private car on the afternoon of 25 September. On the way back, they stopped in front of the main gate of MC College in Tilagarh for the night. At that moment some young men arrived and surrounded the young man’s wife. At one point, the young men took the young man along with his private car to the MC College dorm on the wife’s shelf.

After that, the young man was arrested and his wife was raped by 5/6 people in a private car. Later, the couple were beaten and the rapists took their money and gold ornaments. After being released from the bedroom, the victim’s husband called the police at the Tilagarh point. Later, police recovered the couple’s private car from the dorm and admitted the victim to the One Stop Crisis Center (OCC) at Osmani Medical College Hospital. However, the accused fled after feeling the presence of the police.

That same night, the victim’s husband filed a case with the Shahparan Police Station, mentioning the names of 6 people and charging 3/4 of them. When news of such an incident spread, there was intense anger across the country. Common people took to the streets demanding justice for those responsible and an end to the oppression of women.

A case has been brought against 6 people in this incident at the SMP Police Station in Shahparan. The victim’s husband filed the case as a plaintiff.

The defendants in the case are: Tarekul Islam Tareq (28), son of Rafiqul Islam of Umednagar of Sunamganj Sadar Upazila, Maryland of Bagunipara of Habiganj Sadar. Shah, the son of Jahangir Miah. Mahbubur Rahman Rony (25), Arjun Laskar (25), son of Kanu Laskar from Atgram in Zakiganj, Rabiul Islam (25) from Barangadipur (Jagdal) village of Dirai upazila and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum (25) from Gachbari village of Kanaighat. In addition, three more unidentified persons were also charged.

Although the defendants fled after the case was closed, the police arrested Saifur Rahman, Tarekul Islam Tarek, Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Arjun Laskar, Rabiul Islam and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum and Misbauur Rahman Rajan and Ainuddin from different places in the division. from Sylhet within 3 days of the incident. Local and university sources said that all those arrested were involved in BCL politics even though they did not hold any positions.

On the other hand, after the judicial investigation of the incident of gang rape, the Magistrate of the Superior Court. A report has been submitted to the court composed of Mojibur Rahman Mia and Mohi Uddin Shamim.

Meanwhile, after the gang rape incident, the university authorities formed an investigative committee on October 26. Although the investigation committee presented the report later, the college principal sealed the college committee’s report under the pretext of a judicial investigation.

In addition, the National University has canceled the scholarships and certificates of four defendants involved in the gang rape of a housewife. They have also been permanently expelled from MC College. Those expelled are Saifur Rahman, Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Mahfuzur Rahman Masum and Rabiul Hasan.

Earlier, a few days after the incident, an investigative committee from the Ministry of Education arrived at MC College to investigate the incident. At the end of the investigation, they presented their report to the Ministry of Education.
