A court sentenced defendant Kamal Hossain to life in prison in a case brought against him for raping his daughter in Badda, the capital. Judge Begum Mosha of Dhaka’s 6th Court of Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children on Tuesday. Kamrunnahar announced the verdict. At the same time, he was sentenced to six months in prison for failing to pay a fine of Taka 50,000.
Previously, the defendant Kamal was brought before the court. The judge then delivered the verdict in the presence of the accused. After announcing the verdict, the court ordered the defendant sent to jail with a sentencing order.
Previously, on January 19, the court set the verdict date after presenting the arguments of the state and the defendants. Afroza Farhana (Orange), Special Prosecutor of Dhaka’s 8th Court for Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children, presented her arguments. At that time the defendant Kamal Hossain claimed life imprisonment. Following the presentation of the state’s arguments, Khandaker Mahibul Hasan Apple presented the arguments on behalf of the defendants. At that time, the defendants prayed for the release of Kamal Hossain.
Meanwhile, on December 9 last year, the forensic professor at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Touhida Begum testified in court. This ended the testimony in this case. Of the total of 8 witnesses in this case, 6 have testified. On the same day, the defendant Kamal Hossain defended himself under article 342 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and requested justice in court.
According to the case, the victim’s parents divorced 8/9 years ago. The victim later lived with her grandmother. After the divorce, the defendant married another man named Lipi Begum. In April 2019, his father took Victim to a poor neighborhood in uptown Rupnagar. The father had a fight with his honest mother. Later, on May 2 of the same year, her father rented a house in the Abdullah Bagh area of Baddar with the victim. Then, on May 4-5 of that year, the defendant Kamal Hossain raped the victim.
The victim filed a case at Badda Police Station. Meanwhile, the police arrested Kamal Hossain after presenting a case. On May 8, the court granted him a two-day preventive detention. After pre-trial detention, the defendant pleaded guilty in court on May 9. At the end of the deposition, he was sent to jail.
After investigating the case, the Badda SI Al-Imran Ahmed Police Station filed a charge sheet against Kamal Hossain. On October 12, the court brought charges against the defendants and ordered a trial.
