The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday arrested a man accused of “indulging sexual lust” with the bodies of women taken for autopsy at a Dhaka hospital morgue. The arrested man worked as an assistant in the dome of a hospital morgue in Dhaka, the CID said in a statement.
According to the CID, the defendant had sexual relations with the bodies of the women who had arrived at the morgue for at least a year and a half.
How the defendant was caught: According to the CID statement, the CID prepares DNA evidence and profiles of all the cases in Bangladesh where an autopsy was ordered in cases including rape and murder.
From March 2019 to August 2020, the CID found the presence of male sperm in the bodies of dead women found in the forensic medicine department of a medical school. But the presence of a man’s sperm on the bodies of more than one woman surprised them. They went to the field to identify the man.
In a statement, the CID said the man’s DNA profile was based on sperm found in the body.
Initially, the CID had the idea that in each case a person murdered the victim after the rape or raped after the murder. However, after further investigation and analysis, the CID concluded that a person was “satisfying sexual perversion” in the body.
The CID undercover investigation later revealed that the autopsy of each victim’s body was performed at the morgue of a particular hospital. After inquiring into the operation of the hospital morgue, the CID learned that the body taken to the morgue for autopsy was left in the morgue for dissection the following day. After analyzing the operation of the morgue, investigators suspect that one of the morgue’s domes may have committed the crime.
Investigators reviewed the movements of the domes of that particular hospital on the basis of suspicions. During the investigation it was learned that a dome of the hospital was in the morgue at night to protect the body of the victim during the five incidents. After a detailed investigation, the CID confirmed that the defendant Dom was involved in the crime.
The young accused covered his body after anticipating the investigation. Later on Thursday night, the CID arrested him. According to the CID, the defendant has admitted the charges against him during the preliminary interrogation.
