The main defendants in the case Saifur Rahman, Arjun Laskar and Rabiul Islam have given confessional statements in court in the case of organized rape at the Murarichand College (MC) hostel in Sylhet.
They made a confessional statement when they were presented in court on Friday afternoon after a five-day pre-trial detention.
Judge Ziaur Rahman took statements from Arjun Laskar and Saifur Rahman at the Sylhet Additional Metropolitan Magistrates Court. Judge Saifur Rahman accepted Rabiul Islam’s statement at the Sylhet Metropolitan Assistant Magistrates Court.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (indictment) Amulya Kumar Chowdhury confirmed the information to the media staff present at the court premises at 10:30 pm after taking the statement.
Metropolitan Assistant Magistrate Saifur Rahman granted them a five-day pretrial detention on Monday after their arrest on Sunday.
On September 25, around 8 pm, a young woman and her husband were forcibly taken to the university dormitory and raped by a group of young men. That same night, the husband of the rape victim presented a case to the Shah Paran Police Station in Sylhet, citing six persons and three unidentified persons as accomplices.
