A court sentenced Rashedul Hasan Rajib, 28, to life in prison in a case brought after he was abducted and raped in Baruda upazila de Comilla.
On Thursday (October 15), District Judge and Comilla Sessions, Judge 2 of the Court for the Repression of Abuse of Women and Children. Jahidul Kabir gave the verdict. Rashedul Hasan Rajib is the son of Abdur Rahim from Kakairatla village in Baruda upazila.
According to the case file, Rashedul Hasan Rajib abducted a teacher from a government primary school in Baruda Upazila on November 14, 2015 on the basis of his previous identity.
On November 18, the police rescued the teacher from Uttara in Dhaka. The teacher’s brother presented a case to the police station alleging kidnapping and rape. Later, a charge sheet was filed against Rashedul Hasan Rajib. On Thursday, the court sentenced the only defendant Rajib to life imprisonment.
Government lawyer Mizanur Rahman Majumder said the defendant was sentenced to 15 years in prison and a rigorous year in prison for failing to pay a fine of 50,000 taka.
At the same time, the judge sentenced her to life imprisonment and two more years of rigorous prison for failing to pay a fine of one lakh rupees. Rajib was on the run when the verdict was announced.
