On Friday (September 25), six BCL leaders and activists gang-raped the wife while her husband was detained in the MC College dormitory. After receiving the news, police rescued the couple from the bedroom around 10:30 p.m. Later, the victim was admitted to the OCC Center of the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
According to police and local sources, the newlyweds went to MC College in a private car on Friday afternoon. Later, six leaders and activists of the MC College Chhatra League grabbed the husbands, took them to the dormitory and beat them first. He later gang raped his wife while holding her husband captive. Each of the BCL leaders lives in the dormitory. They are followers of the leader of the Awami League, Advocate Ranjit Sarkar Group, based in Tilagarh.
The woman’s husband filed a case at the city’s Shahparan Police Station on Saturday morning, naming six people and charging two or three others.
The defendants are Saifur Rahman, 26, son of Tahid Miah from Chandaipara village in Balaganj upazila de Sylhet, resident of MC College fifth block hostel, Tarekul Islam Tarek, 26, son of the late Rafiqul Islam of Nisarg-56 in Sunamganj Sadar. Jahangir Miah’s son, MC College Hostel, Shah Mohammad, resident of room 205, block 6. Mahbubur Rahman Rony, 25, son of Kanu Laskar from Atgram in Zakiganj upazila, Arjun Laskar, 25, resident of Shahparan Rajpara area, Rabiul Islam, 25, a resident of MC shelter in the Barangadipur village of Dirai upazila and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, 25, of the Gachbari upazila area of Kana.
In addition, Deputy Inspector (SI) Milton Sarkar from Shahparan Police Station has brought another case regarding the recovery of weapons from the dormitory. The case has been brought against Chhatra League cadre, Saifur Rahman.
