He left for the country on a SriLankan Airlines flight from Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday night.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Trade Minister Tipu Munshi and other senior government officials said goodbye to him at the airport.

Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived in Dhaka on Friday morning on a two-day visit to mark the centenary of Bangabandhu’s birth and the golden anniversary of independence. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met him at the airport.

From the airport, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka went directly to the National Monument in Savar, where he paid tribute to the martyrs of the Bangladesh Liberation War.

On Friday afternoon, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen paid a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka at the Sonargaon Hotel. Later in the afternoon, Rajapaksa addressed the National Parade Courtyard as the guest of honor on the occasion of the centenary of Bangabandhu’s birth and the golden jubilee of independence. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was also present on the occasion.

In the evening, Mahinda Rajapaksa attended a cultural event and dinner in the Grand Ball Room of the Intercontinental Hotel.

On the second day of the visit, he paid tribute to Bangabandhu’s portrait at Dhanmondi No. 32 on Saturday morning and held a bilateral meeting with Sheikh Hasina. After the meeting, the prime ministers of the two countries signed six memorandums of understanding to enhance mutual cooperation in various fields.

Additionally, Nepalese President Vidya Devi Bhandari will arrive in Dhaka on March 22, Bhutan Prime Minister Lotte Shering on March 24, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 26.
