Raihanul mixed sleeping pills with soft drinks and gave them to Bhabi and her two sons. He later killed them by cutting their throats with a knife while they slept. The Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said this in a charge sheet filed in court one month and five days after the murder in Kalaroa, Satkhira.
Sheikh Omar Farooq, CID additional DIG in Khulna and Barisal region, said this at a press conference held at CID headquarters on Tuesday (November 24). At the beginning of November 22, the CID filed a charge sheet in court.
Additional DIG Sheikh Omar Farooq said the arrested Raihanul Islam had been taking sleeping pills mixed with phencidyl for a long time. At one point, the police caught him with phencidyl and he was also imprisoned. He later divorced his wife Fahima. In January this year, Raihanul began living with his brother’s family and his sister-in-law while he was unemployed. I think Sabina Khatun sometimes brought up the issue of money and couldn’t accept what she used to do with it. At one point, Raihanul planned to kill the entire family, including his brother-in-law.
Omar Farooq said: ‘As part of the plot to kill the local Md. Raihanul bought two speed (soft drinks) at the Abu Jafar store and mixed sleeping pills in them. He gives this drink mixed with sleeping pills to his brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew. When they fell asleep, they killed his brother and then Bhabhi with a knife around 3:30 pm on October 15.
The police officer said, ‘Raihanul originally wanted to kill his brother and sister-in-law. But his nephew and niece woke up while carrying out the murder. That is why he also killed them. After the incident, Raihanul tried to erase the evidence of the murder. But before that the CID arrested him. Later, according to his confession, the blood-stained clothing was recovered, including the knife used in the murder.
Raihanul told the CID during preliminary questioning that he learned the murder technique by watching the television series Crime Patrol. He later carried out the assassination tactically.
