A court has granted a five-day pre-trial detention to officer Titu Chandra Das, who was suspended in connection with the death of Raihan Ahmed at a police post in Sylhet. Earlier Monday afternoon, Sylhet, Additional Metropolitan Chief Magistrate Judge. Three policemen testified under Section 164 as eyewitnesses in the Ziadur Rahman court. Later on Tuesday, around 2:30 p.m., the PIB detained Titu from the police line.

Earlier, Raihan died at the Bandarbazar police post in the early hours of October 11. Tahmina Akhter, the deceased’s wife, filed a lawsuit against the unidentified defendant at the Kotwali Model Police Station that night. Subsequently, amid nationwide criticism, four police officers, including the one in charge of the outpost, were suspended and three others were removed. The case is now being investigated by PBI.

Raihan’s family alleged that Raihan was picked up at midnight on October 10 and detained at the Bandarbazar Police Post below the Kotwali Police Station in Sylhet. He died in the morning. During the torture, a policeman named Touhid Mia called Raihan’s family from his mobile phone and demanded money. Relatives went to the hospital from the outpost in the morning and identified Raihan’s body.
