Sylhet: Another police officer, Harunur Rashid, who participated in the murder of 30-year-old Raihan Uddin at a police post in Sylhet, has been arrested by PBI.
He was picked up from the police line on Friday (October 23) evening and shown in custody.
Previously, agent Titu Chandra Das, who was fired on October 20, was also arrested in the Raihan murder case.
On Saturday (October 24) morning, Police Superintendent of Police Investigation Bureau (PBI), Sylhet, Police Superintendent, Khaleduzzaman, confirmed the information to banglanews, saying that two people had been arrested in the case. Harunur Rashid arrested will be presented in court on Saturday and pretrial detention will be sought.
Raihan was tortured at the police post on the morning of October 11. He died at Osmani Medical College Hospital around 7:50 am.
Raihan was beaten to death during the kidnapping, although the police claimed that the victim’s family and relatives had accused him of having been tortured to death by the police.
The victim’s wife filed a murder case at the Kotwali Police Station.
Following the allegations from the family and the case, the Sylhet Metropolitan Police investigation team fired four policemen, including Akbar in charge, and removed three others because they were involved in torturing Raihan to death at the outpost. . Three of the four looted are Harunur Rashid, Touhid Mia and Titu Chandra Das, agents from the Bandarbazar outpost. The retired police personnel are ASI Ashek Elahi, ASI Qutb Ali and Constable Sajib Hossain. However, Akbar is on the run despite 6 other people being in police custody after the incident.
The case is being investigated by the PBI following instructions from the police headquarters. After receiving the investigation on October 14, the PBI team visited the Bandarbazar police post, the town’s caste house and the victim’s house. After removing the body from the grave on October 15, the PBI conducted another autopsy.
The forensic report showed 111 wounds on the body of Raihan Uddin, who died in torture. Of these injuries, 98 were stab wounds and 14 were bruises. Raihan died at 8:50 a.m. Sunday due to a ruptured vein inside his body due to additional injuries.
Three police officers Saiful, Delwar and Shamim testified in court under section 164 on Monday (October 19). Later, on October 20, the PBI ordered agent Titu, who was fired from the police line, preventive detention for five days.
However, SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, who was fired from the Bandarbazar police post in Sylhet, remains at large. ICT SI Hasan Uddin from the outpost was fired and attached to police lines for helping Akbar escape and hiding information and for missing CCTV footage.
On 21 October, an investigation team from the police headquarters led by the Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG Crime Analysis Division) Muhammad Ayub visited Sylhet. Their observations show that CCTV footage showed that SI Hasan, another SI Akbar associate, and journalist Abdullah Al Mamun were involved. Mamun has also been on the run since then.
