Rahul Gandhi’s comments on Indira Gandhi’s decision (video)

His grandson Rahul Gandhi has described Indira Gandhi’s decision to declare a state of emergency as incorrect.

On Tuesday, he had an open discussion with Kaushik Basu, an economics professor at Cornell University in the United States.

Rahul was candid about the current political situation, starting with the state of emergency. There, during the government of Indira, the issue of the state of emergency arose for 21 consecutive months from 1975 to ’86.

Usually when this problem arises, party leaders try to avoid it tactically. But Rahul Gandhi himself made an exception this time. He said declaring a state of emergency was the wrong decision of his grandmother.

When asked for his opinion, Rahul said, “I think it was the wrong decision.” There is no doubt about this. The grandmother herself agreed. But Congress never tried to control the country’s constitutional infrastructure. Honestly, Congress doesn’t have that power. Our party infrastructure does not allow it.

Many leaders of the Gerua camp were imprisoned during the state of emergency. Now that the BJP is in power, Congress is under constant attack.

In particular, they have been affected by attacks against themselves, questioning freedom of expression, the right to oppose and control the media.

In June last year, Interior Minister Amit Shah lashed out at the Gandhi family and Congress for the state of emergency. He fired because a family’s lust for power turned the entire country into a prison overnight.

But there is a fundamental difference between Rahul’s claim, the state of emergency, and the current situation. At present, government institutions are being filled with the incorporation of people from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Even if Congress defeats the BJP in the elections, there is no way to isolate the people of Geruashibir from the institutional infrastructure.

Rahul said that institutional balance is the identity of modern democracy. The institutions operate independently and independently. Today, the RSS is attacking that freedom.

Tactically, everything is being done according to specific procedures. I am not saying that democracy is decaying, democracy is suffocating in India.
