After a long and successful treatment, the two sisters, Rabeya and Rokaiya de Pabna, returned home healthy after separating their heads. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka at noon on Sunday and joined them in a video conference from Ganobhaban.
In a video conference, the Prime Minister exchanged greetings with Shishu Rabeya-Rokaiya. When asked how they were doing at the time, the prime minister said: ‘How are you?’ Then one of them says, ‘Yeah, well, how are you?’ In response, the Prime Minister said: ‘Good. Happy to come home? At that moment, the two children shook their heads and expressed their happiness.
Earlier, the Prime Minister wished Rabea-Rokaiya the best and longevity and said: “Today Rabea-Rokaiya returns home, returns to her parents’ lap. Rabea-Rokaiya returns home after a long and complicated treatment, it really is a very happy and different feeling. It is a source of great joy and pride for everyone to return to the happy home of Rabia-Rokaiya on the centenary of Mujib. I wish you a complete recovery. “Rabia-Rokaiya was born on July 17, 2016 in the house of Rafiqul Islam and Taslima Khatun in the Atalanka village of Chatmohar in Pabna.
Under the Prime Minister’s direction, two children received treatment at home and abroad. At first, Rabeya-Rokaiya was treated at different hospitals in the country and at the Bangabandhu Medical University Hospital. There they operate on the blood vessels of the brain at two levels. They were subsequently sent to Hungary in January 2019 for advanced treatment. In Hungary, 48 surgeries, both large and small, were performed. The Prime Minister bears all the medical expenses of the twin sons Rabeya-Rokaiya. In addition, the Hungarian charity Action for Defense People’s Foundation provides general medical assistance. One in five to six million children has this rare disease. In medical terms it is called “craniopagus”.
From August 1 to 3, 2019, at the CMH Dhaka CMH, a complex operation was carried out to separate the skulls of the Rabia-Rokaiyas, and after 33 hours, it was possible to separate their skulls and brains; What is considered a unique achievement of medical science in Bangladesh. These surgeries are rare in the world and the first in Southeast Asia. There is not much success in the world after surgery. This complex operation is called “Operation Freedom”. The operation was performed by a Hungarian surgical team of 34 Hungarian medical specialists, including neuro anesthesiologists, neurosurgeons and plastic surgeons from CMH, the Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute, the Heart Foundation, the Institute of Neurosciences and the Suhrawardy Hospital. After the main operation, several more Rabia-Rokeya operations were completed at different stages. The last time they had a fourth phase operation was on October 26 of last year. They are now almost healthy without any other birth defects.
Sheikh Hasina said: “I am very happy today that Rabia-Rokaiya had a successful surgery after such a long treatment and this March is an important month in the history of Bengalis. This month our great leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born. This is the month in which we have achieved our independence.
