The criminals broke into the home of Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam in Dinajpur with the intention of robbing. At that time, when Wahida Khanam interfered, she was attacked, RAB said.

RAB-13 Captain Reza Ahmed Ferdous said this at a press conference held at the RAB-13 headquarters on Friday night.

He said Asadul was arrested in Kaliganj in Hilli on Friday morning in connection with the attack on UNO Wahida Khanam and her father. According to their confession, Nabirul and Santu were arrested after a one-day operation.

In an initial confession, Asadul said that they went to UNO Wahida Khanam’s home for the purpose of stealing. He claimed that Nabirul hit UNO Wahida Khanam on the head.

RAB-13 captain Reza Ahmed Ferdous said it would take time to find out if there were other reasons behind the incident. The accused will be referred and questioned.

Meanwhile, the (expelled) Upazila Juba League convener Jahangir and three others were detained, but were released as captain of the RAB-13.

Earlier, a joint police and RAB team arrested prime suspect Asadul Haque from the Kaliganj area in Hili around 5 am on Friday, police said. Later, Jahangir Hossain, a partner of Asadul Haque, was arrested at his home.

It is known that Masud Rana was arrested at his home at 12 noon on Friday and Nabirul Islam from the village of Bishwakanathpur in Chakbamandia around 2 pm. Earlier, guard Nahid Hossain Palash was arrested on suspicion.

UNO’s brother, Sheikh Farid Uddin, filed a lawsuit against four or five unidentified people at the Ghoraghat police station around 11pm on Thursday night.

According to local sources, the criminals broke the fan of the official UN residence at midnight last Wednesday and entered his bedroom. Earlier, the criminals tied up the security guard of the residence and locked him in the guard room.

UNO’s father, Omar Ali, 60, takes a walk every morning. But since he didn’t go out for a walk in the morning, his colleagues went to the residence to look for him. Despite many calls, they received no response and informed the police. Later, the police went and rescued UNO, his father and a guard.

Later, when UNO Wahidar’s condition deteriorated, he was flown to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Air Force helicopter in an emergency. He is currently in treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka.
