Rabiul Islam, 43, a fired fourth-class employee, pleaded guilty to attacking Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi (UN) officer Wahida Khanam in Dinajpur. He has admitted his responsibility to the police. Devdas Bhattacharya said: ‘Rabiul Islam has a lot in common with the attacker in his body shape and his way of walking. Rabiul may have caused this incident out of anger. However, the investigation is not over yet. You will be informed when new information is received.
Responding to a question from reporters, the police officer said: “I do not want to say anything about how Asadul Islam confessed to the RAB. However, his confession is not the last word. Details will be known after further investigation.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Juba League, Asadul Islam, and Nadim Hossain Palash, the night watchman of the UN residence, were sent to jail through the court. On the other hand, the court allowed Rabiul Islam to remain in preventive detention for six days.
According to a senior police official, Rs 50,000 was stolen from Wahida Khanum’s purse. At the time, Rabiul Islam was the gardener for the UN office. When questioned as a suspect, Rabiul did not admit it. He was later identified in CCTV footage as the one who had stolen the money. It was suspended along with a departmental case against Rabiul Islam.
