Quader Mirza was surrounded by RAB police in the municipal building

Large numbers of police and RAB members have surrounded the Basurhat municipal building in Kompaniganj upazila of Noakhali. Inside, the mayor and the brother of the Awami League secretary general, Obaidul Quader, Abdul Quader Mirza, is standing with his followers.

Alauddin’s brother, Emdad Hossain, who was killed in the confrontation, filed a murder case Thursday night. Quader Mirza, his brother Shahadat Hossain and their son Mirza Masroor Quader Tasik have been indicted in the case.

Police and members of the RAB were immediately seen surrounding the Basurhat municipal building. White-clad detectives are also keeping a close watch. Abdul Quader Mirza is staying with his followers in a room of the municipal building under this surveillance.

In the evening, Akter Jahan Bakul, Quader Mirza’s wife, went there with a bag of practical clothes from her husband. Later in the evening, a lawyer also met Mirza Quader and left the municipal building. With this, the fear of arrest has spread among the leaders and activists who follow Mirza Quader.

In this situation, Mirza Quader’s younger brother, Shahadat Hossain, was seen speaking to a senior RAB official about the general situation.

Additionally, the police and RAB have been on alert in Bangabandhu Chattar, Rupali Chattar, Upazila Hospital Gate, College Gate, and the Uttar Bazar area at Zero Point.

Police arrested Mizanur Rahman Badal, former president of Kompaniganj upazila and organizational secretary of the district Awami League, in a bloody clash between two rival Awami League factions in Basurhat, Noakhali.

Police arrested him in the Noakhali Press Club area on Thursday afternoon, Police Superintendent Alamgir Hossain confirmed.

Meanwhile, Emdad Hossain, brother of the murdered Alauddin, presented a murder case Thursday night. Basurhat City Council Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza became the main defendant in the case. In addition, 184 people have been charged, including Quader Mirza’s younger brother, Shahadat Hossain, and his son Mirza Mashroor Quader Tasik. Another 30/40 unidentified people are charged in this case.

According to the case brief, all the defendants, led by the defendant Mirza Quader, armed with pistols, shotguns, cannons, ramdas, iron bars, cocktails and other weapons, fired 50/60 cocktails and created panic in the population and attacked to protest demonstration. Defendant No. 4 Nazim Uddin Badal shot Alauddin with the intention of killing him.
