On the way from Shimulia in Munshiganj to Banglabazar in Madaripur, the silly ferry collided with a pipe and broke on Raniganj’s flat. The ferry sank when it was anchored after unloading passengers and vehicles at the dock.
According to sources from Banglabazar Ferry Ghat, the silly ferry collided with a river dredger pipe while heading to Banglabazar Ghat from Madaripur with 22 vehicles from Raniganj Shimulia Ghat around 12:00 on Sunday. Later, the fast ferry arrived at Banglabazar Ghat around 4pm, unloaded the vehicles and anchored them. However, the water came in and the ferry sank. Later on Monday, around 1 o’clock, the entire ferry sank in the Padma.
Farid Mia, the Raniganj fool ferry driver, said that the fool ferry was arriving at Banglabazar Ghat from Shimulia with 22 vehicles around 12pm on Sunday when it collided with a dredge pipe and the floor burst and water entered. The entire ferry sank in the Padma around 1pm on Monday.
Salauddin, manager of BIWTC’s Banglabazar Ghat, said the floor of the Raniganj ferry exploded when it collided with a dredge pipe while en route to Banglabazar Ghat. The driver discreetly anchored the ferry. Later it was possible to unload all the vehicles and passengers safely. Later, the ferry slowly sank.
Meanwhile, BIWTA continues its efforts to rescue the sunken ferry.
