In the golden jubilee of the great independence of Bangladesh, the government has published a final list of names of heroic freedom fighters and martyred intellectuals. In the first phase, a list of 1 lakh 46,537 heroic freedom fighters and 191 martyred intellectuals was published.
The list was published by Liberation War Affairs Minister AQM Mozammel Haque at a press conference at the Liberation War Affairs Ministry on Thursday afternoon.
At the top of the list of heroic freedom fighters are the nation’s father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, M Mansur Ali and AHM Kamaruzzaman.
The highest number of heroic freedom fighters of the Dhaka division is 36,036 on the list. 30,053 in the Chittagong division, 12,573 in the Barisal division, 16,630 in the Khulna division, 10,057 in the Mymensingh division, 13,899 in the Rajshahi division, 15,158 in the Rangpur division and 10,264 in the Sylhet division.
The list will be posted on the ministry’s website today (Thursday), the minister said.
The minister said that after further verification, selection and appeal hearing, the final list of names of heroic freedom fighters under verification and selection will be published before June 30, 2021 and the list of martyred intellectuals will be published on June 30. of June.
Mozammel Haque said the list of freedom fighters with gadgets will be released on April 30. No one will be able to apply for freedom again. Those who have applied before will only be able to review and appeal.
“We are thinking about how to honor the mass martyrs during the liberation war,” he said.
The minister said it would be confusing to get the assignment if no one on the published list matched any information. That is why we check and select a year. Shatabag took time to perfect. You can still be wrong. But that mistake will not be anything big.
He said the names of 1 lakh 46,535 people were posted today. The list will be published after checking and selecting the rest. The total will not be more than 1 lakh 80,000, the minister said.
Regarding the names of Ziaur Rahman and Khandaker Mushtaq on the list, the Liberation War minister said: “Many people, including Ziaur Rahman and Khandaker Mushtaq, are on the list of freedom fighters.” They fought the war of liberation. But their deeds will be mentioned alongside their names as Bangabandhu’s accomplices and assassins, including misdeeds.
The minister said that as a freedom fighter, this is his achievement. No one can cancel that. However, there has been a committee to cancel his title. The title is an honor. He can be respected by any government, he can be returned for any crime if he wants.
