Dhaka: Public transport has started with half of the passengers with an 80 percent additional fare.

The bus fare has increased since Wednesday morning (March 31).

At the same time, half of the passengers are being transported by public transport to avoid corona transmission. Rent will be charged for the next two weeks.

Khandaker Enayet Ullah, general secretary of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association, told banglanews that public transport and long-distance buses will run with half of the passengers from Wednesday. Instructions in this regard have been communicated to all concerned.

Earlier on Monday (March 29), bus owners sat down in a meeting with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA). That is where the decision was made.

The Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Obaidul Quader, said on Tuesday (March 30) that public transport rates across the country had increased by 70 percent since Wednesday (March 31) due to an increase in corona infection. The order will remain in effect for the next two weeks. If the situation is normal, the rent will return to normal.

Obaidul Quader instructed public transport owners and workers to be strict in this regard, leaving half of the seats empty and making the use of 100% masks and hand sanitizer mandatory in compliance with sanitary regulations.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has issued a public notice for the new public transport.

Establishes that no more than 50 percent of capacity can be transported, no more than 60 percent of the existing fare can be charged, traffic between districts should be restricted in areas of high risk of infection, passengers should stop if necessary , Passengers, Drivers, Supervisors / Drivers, Aides and Ticket Points of Sale should ensure masks are worn / used, that adequate soap water / hand sanitizers are available for hand washing, that vehicles are disinfected with disinfectant at the beginning and end of the journey, Dismantling the bus If social distance must be maintained, other hygiene rules applicable to public transport must be followed.

This instruction will remain in effect from March 31, 2021 until further notice (currently for 02 (two) weeks).

When the corona virus began to spread in the country, the government stopped all traffic as of March 21, 2020. After being closed for more than two months, the government allowed public transportation to pass with half of the passengers since June 1 of last year, subject to health conditions. Then the rent was increased by 60 percent.

After a long period, Corona’s infection subsided a bit and, in September, the government allowed 100% passenger seating. From then until Tuesday (March 30), public transport was operating with 100% of passengers.
