Leaders and activists from several left-wing student organizations have demonstrated in the capital to protest the death of jailed writer Mushtaq Ahmed in a case under the Digital Security Law. The procession was pulled out of the Dhaka University Student and Teacher Center (TSC) at around 12:30 pm on Thursday.
The procession circled the Shahbagh and Paribagh crosses. Later, around 1 am, the protesters gathered at the foot of the Raju sculpture.
Protesters chanted slogans with banners in the procession. At this time various slogans were given blaming the state for the death of the writer Mushtaq.
Writer Mushtaq Ahmed, 53, died in the Kashimpur high-security prison in Gazipur on Thursday night in a case under the Digital Security Law.
Chief Superintendent of the Kashimpur High Security Prison. Gias Uddin said that Mushtaq Ahmed, who was in jail, suddenly fell ill on Thursday night and was taken to the jail hospital. From there he was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed University Medical Hospital for better treatment. The doctor on duty declared Mushtaq Ahmed dead at around 8:20 pm.
The jail superintendent further said that a case against Mushtaq Ahmed was filed at the Dhaka Ramna model police station on May 2 last year under the Digital Security Act (Section 11/25 (1) (b) / 31/35 of the Digital Security Law of 2016). He was arrested on May 7 of the same month in that case. On August 8, Mushtaq Ahmed was transferred from Dhaka’s Keraniganj Prison to Kashimpur High Security Prison. His arrest number at Kashimpur High Security Prison was 928/2020.
