According to the BBC, thousands of protesters took to the streets of the city of Peshawar this Sunday, ignoring various restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus epidemic.
His claim is that the Imran Khan government came to power with the support of the army and the army runs the country with him at the helm.
However, the influential Pakistani military has denied the allegations.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that he won the election on the promise to fight corruption.
Now that he is taking action against corruption on his promises, protests against the government have begun to pressure him to drop the case against corrupt opposition leaders.
Who protests?
Since October 16, Pakistan’s opposition parties have formed an alliance called the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and have been organizing mass protests against the Imran government.
The coalition includes members of the country’s main political parties, ranging from far-right religious parties to moderate and center-left parties, and even secular nationalists.
So far, large rallies have been held in three of Pakistan’s four provinces (Punjab, Sindh and Baluchistan). The PDM held its first rally in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday.
Opposition groups called for the overthrow of the current “unrepresentative” government of the country. They allege that the government is interfering with the country’s judiciary and that the country’s economy is suffering from extreme mismanagement.
