The Mro people complain that in recent years, various parts of the Chimbuk hills, the traditional land of the Mro, have been evicted in the name of tourism. Now, the Sikder Group is in the process of building a five-star hotel on the hill on approximately 100 acres of land.
If the project is to be implemented, Kaprupara, Kalaipara, Dalapara, Era Para, Remnai Para from the Mro community will be directly affected and 80 to 100 Paras will be indirectly affected; About 10,000 farmers in Jum will be at risk of becoming refugees for fear that 405 families will lose their land.
Hasan Maruf Rumi, leader of the Gana Sanghati Andolan Chittagong region, said that the hill tribes in the Chittagong Hill Tracts were being “forcibly evicted”.
