Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked all concerned to spread rumors and false propaganda in the name of freedom of expression, as well as to provide truthful information on any incidents.

“Spreading false propaganda is not freedom of expression, there must be an immediate protest against any false propaganda, people must know the real facts, they must not remain silent,” he said.

The Prime Minister said this at the beginning of the regular weekly Cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Monday. The Prime Minister attended the meeting via video conference from her official Ganobhaban residence.

Sheikh Hasina said that it may hurt a bit to believe in telling the truth about any incident, but in the end it will work and that is the reality.

He also mentioned that a section is trying to harm the people of the country and the government of Bangladesh.

Warning everyone in the area to be vigilant, the Prime Minister said that the facts and facts of all incidents must be disclosed.

The prime minister said a section was trying to tarnish the government’s image by spreading rumors at will. But they will never succeed in fulfilling their bad intentions.

He said: ‘Is freedom of speech the name of the opportunity to create anarchy? Does arresting those who are giving speeches to create conflict mean depriving them of freedom of expression? That is not right. ‘

“In this age of digital media, it is unacceptable that anyone can write and express whatever they want in the name of freedom of expression,” he said.

Sheikh Hasina said: ‘Anyone can spread false propaganda on social media however they want. When the government takes action against them, a mahal starts screaming. Ordinary people do not consider why action is being taken against them.

On the other hand, the head of the government of Bangladesh also mentioned that it is important to provide the necessary information to the concerned authorities.

In this context, the Prime Minister said, the mentality of adopting a defensive posture without giving adequate information is not a good habit.

Referring to an incident during the students’ movement against quotas, he said ordinary students staged a protest after rumors spread that a girl was being tortured in the Awami League’s Dhanmondi office. Rumors spread by a group of conspirators led to an attack on the party’s office with stones and deadly weapons that day.

“Such incidents have taken place when Bangladesh has achieved a better position in the economic index by refuting many negative predictions of various international organizations,” he said.

Furthermore, he said that those who want Bangladesh to depend on others instead of developing the country are committing these misdeeds.

“There is always a part of people who never think about the betterment of others, they are always busy with their own personal problems and interests. Every time they don’t do something in accordance with their planned conspiracy, they start to criticize, ” Sheikh Hasina said.

He stressed that Bangladesh has emerged as an independent country and will move forward with self-esteem and head held high.

The Prime Minister mentioned that there are interest groups in the country and abroad who do not want the progress of the country and never wanted the country to be independent. They are sad to see the progress of Bangladesh.

“They (selfish neighborhoods) wanted to keep Bangladesh poor and dependent on them,” he said.

But in the coming days, Bangladesh will go further, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said.
