Muntasir Mamun, 69, was admitted to Mugda General Hospital on Sunday night after being diagnosed with the coronavirus, Dr. Mahbubur Rahman reported.
He told bdnews24.com: “She’s fine. We call the ICU. If she gets a seat, they will transfer her to the ICU tonight.”
Earlier around 4:30 pm, a journalist from bdnews24.com called Professor Muntasir Mamun for a special report and informed him that he was going to Mugda Hospital.
Muntasir Mamun, professor of history at the University of Dhaka, has done extensive research on the liberation war. The professor, who was involved in the movement to demand justice for 1971 war criminals, also testified in war crimes court.
Professor Muntir Mamun, who is vocal against communalism and fundamentalism, also actively participates in the committee to eradicate the murderous agents of 1971. He is currently the committee’s vice chair.
Professor Muntasir Mamun has conducted investigations into the 1971 genocide. Due to his efforts, the Genocide Torture Archive and Museum was established on May 16, 2014 in Khulna. It is fighting for the international recognition of the black night genocide of March 25, 1971.
Muntasir Mamun gained membership in the first Daksh election held in independent Bangladesh. At the same time, he was President of the Cultural Parliament of the University of Dhaka.
Professor Muntasir Mamun was a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Museum and the Board of Directors of the Shilpakala Academy of Bangladesh and the National Archives. He is one of the founders of the Dhaka City Museum.
Muntasir Mamun has established the Dhaka Study Center to study the history of Dhaka. He is a member of the Bangla Academy.
