The foundation stone of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge will be laid on Sunday (November 29). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation stone for the bridge via video conference from Ganobhaban at 10:30 am today. Construction of the bridge will begin as soon as the Prime Minister lays the foundation stone.
According to sources from the ministry, the opening ceremony was organized at the west and east ends of the Bangabandhu Bridge. Minister of Railways. Nurul Islam Sujan will chair the performance from the western end of the Bangabandhu Bridge in Sirajganj. The local deputy, the secretary of the Ministry of Railways, Selim Reza, and the Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh will address the function.
According to sources, the Bangabandhu railway bridge will be about 4.70 km long with a double track parallel double track of the existing Bangabandhu bridge. On both sides of the bridge, about 0.5 km of viaduct, about 7.8 km of railway approach, one end of the embankment and a total of 30 km of railways will be built including the lookout and the lining.
As the Bangabandhu railway bridge is double-track and double-track, there is no need to wait at the stations like before due to the crossing of the respective trains running between the eastern and western regions. As a result, the running time of the trains in question will be reduced by about 20 minutes, operating expenses will be reduced and the revenues of the railways will increase. A gas transmission pipe will be placed on this bridge.
The construction of this rail bridge will be completed in August 2024. The bridge will open to train service the same year.
Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said construction work on the Sirajganj to Bogra railway line would begin shortly after work on the bridge begins. The minister said that the railway bridge is very important for the entire northern region. With this double line bridge, trains will be able to travel at a speed of 100 km / h.
In this regard, said project manager Kamrul Ahsan, preparations for the inauguration have been completed. Construction of the bridge will begin as soon as the Prime Minister lays the foundation stone. Therefore, interested engineers from the bridge construction company are already stationed in the project area.
