Nepalese President Vidya Devi Bhandari has dissolved the government. The president made such a decision on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Al Jazeera reported that, in addition to dissolving parliament, President Vidya Devi also announced a possible time for the next elections.
The next general elections will be held on April 30 and May 10, 2021, according to a statement from the president’s office.
The ruling Communist Party of Nepal (PNC) has accused Prime Minister Oli of avoiding the PNC in government decisions and appointments.
Oli won the 2016 general election, leading an alliance with former Maoist rebels from Nepal. But he was criticized for avoiding his own party, the Communist Party of Nepal, and working with an intimate faction.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Oli met with top party leaders on Saturday. He told an emergency cabinet meeting Sunday morning that his government had lost a majority. As a result, the government should be dissolved.
