The police arrested Tofazzal Hossain alias Tapu, president of the Club of the United Association of Elite Employers in Fatulla, Narayanganj, in an extortion case. He was arrested at a club in the Dharmaganj area of the Fatulla police station in Sadar upazila on Wednesday night.
Syed Mehedi Hossain, managing director of the local Hossain Jute Mill, presented the case. He alleged in the case that Tofazzal Hossain threatened him demanding the extortion of Tk 20 lakh.
The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Fatullah Model Police Station, Aslam Hossain, confirmed the news at first light. He said the managing director of Hossain Jute Mill in Fatullah’s Dharmaganj area brought a case against Tofazzal on Wednesday night alleging extortion and threats. In addition to Tofazzal Hossain, between 10 and 12 people have been charged in the case, including Kamal Hossain and Abdul Momin. Tofazzal Hossain was arrested in the case after raiding the United Club at night. Attempts are being made to arrest the other defendant in the case.
Police from the District Detective Division (DB) arrested Tofazzal Hossain and several of his associates on charges of gambling within The United Association Club a year and a half ago.
