‘Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’ has been featured as a political party in the introductory phase of various Bangladeshi political parties in the country’s 9th and 10th class students’ textbooks on society and politics. 21 prominent citizens of the country have reacted angrily to this incident. They made the response in a joint statement signed by freedom fighter Nasir Uddin Yusuf, a cultural figure, sent to the media on Wednesday night.
In the statement, they said: “The war criminal political party ‘Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’ has been presented as a political party. But the party’s heinous crimes against humanity in the 1971 liberation war are not mentioned. History says that Jamaat-e-Islami took an armed position against the independence of Bangladesh during the liberation war of 1971 and played a leading role in the brutal murder of 3 million people and the rape of more than four lakhs of women. to its war crimes, the International Criminal Tribunal for Bangladesh has identified Jamaat-e-Islami as a war criminal group and the country’s highest court has revoked Jamaat’s registration as a genocidal party. Therefore, under no circumstances Jamaat-e-Islami can be portrayed as a significant political party in Bangladesh. This distorted informational textbook will not only confuse our sweet students, but also t ime will prevent them from knowing the truth. “
The statement read: “Jamaat-e-Islami was the main killer of the genocide and murder of intellectuals in the great liberation war. It is not mentioned in this book.” Furthermore, the inhumane activities of Jamaat in 1971 are not mentioned. Political parties based on religion were banned in the constitution drawn up under the leadership of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib in independent Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islami no it took place in Bengal. The party made its debut later with the murder of Bangabandhu, which we think should be mentioned and not mentioned is a great injustice.
