Justice Minister Anisul Haque has presented Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with a replica of the newly constructed Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) building in Dhaka district. He presented the gift to the Prime Minister at the opening ceremony of CJM Bhaban in Ganobhaban on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated the building via videoconference from Ganobhaban.

The Chief Justice, Syed Mahmud Hossain, and the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSSC), Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh, were present on the occasion under the chairmanship of the Minister of Law, Anisul Haque. Also present were the judges of the Dhaka District Court, all the Magistrates, including the Judges of the Metropolitan Court, the legal leaders and the general attorneys.

The newly constructed multi-story building has various facilities. Among them are the Chief Judicial Magistrate and Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Malkhana, the staff room, the water reservoir and the Faya pump ghat in the 12,329-square-foot basement. 15,230 square feet ground floor car parking, electrical substation and generator room, reception and driver’s waiting room. On the first floor of the building are Nezarat Sum, Strong Room, Store Keeper, Seresta Room and Computer Room. On the second floor, the Court of First Judicial Instance and the Personnel Chamber, the Additional Judicial Court of First Instance and the Personnel Room, the Conference Room, the Library. The third floor has the DC Prosecutor’s Office, Court Inspector Room, GR and No GR Section, Police Records Room, Motor Vehicle Section, IT Section.

On the fourth floor is the Legal Assistance Office, Motor Vehicle Section, GR Section for Women and Children, GR Section for Drugs, Court Sub-inspection Room. There are 4 adjoining rooms, khas jazz room and staff room on each floor from the fifth to the eighth floor, common bathroom area at the east and west end of the building on each floor.

According to judicial sources, on November 25, 2013, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the first stone of the Judicial Court of First Instance building. Then, on December 6, 2014, work was ordered to begin on the two-year project building. But a year and a half later, on April 21, 2016, construction work on the building began. Construction of the 10-story building on the 13-story foundation stone was completed on June 30, 2016.
