Former Teknaf Pradeep Police Commissioner was the mastermind behind the assassination of army commander (retired) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan. RAB spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Ashiq Billah said OC Pradeep was first threatened and later killed for seeking a video interview against the yaba trade.

He made the remarks at a press conference at the RAB media center in Kawran Bazar in the capital on Sunday afternoon (December 13) after the charge sheet in the murder case of Major (retd) Sinha was filed in the Chief Judge’s Court of Cox’s Bazar.

Lieutenant Colonel Ashiq Billah said: “Four months and 10 days after the RAB took over the murder investigation, the investigating officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Khairul Islam, presented the charge sheet to the court. He framed the charges against 15 people on the 26-page charge sheet, which included 63 witnesses. Of the 15 defendants, nine were police officers fired from Teknaf police station, three were dismissed APBN members and three were civilians. 14 out of 15 people are in jail. There is a fugitive. Twelve of the 14 inmates have pleaded guilty in court. Inspector Pradeep Kumar Das and Officer Rubel Sharma did not testify.

The RAB official said: “The investigating officer in this case has raised a matter very clearly. Witnesses to the fact, the evidence, has objectively confirmed through the defendant’s statements that it was a premeditated murder. The mastermind of the murder was Pradeep Kumar Das, the then officer in charge of the Teknaf Police Station. It has been essential to cover up the murders and divert them to other sectors. Inspector Pradeep Kumar Das participated in the direct conspiracy of the other defendants SI Liaquat Ali, Md. Nurul Amin, police sources Muhammad Ayaz and Mohammad Nizamuddin. Another policeman, Nanda Dulal, helped Liaquat Ali again. Furthermore, the murder occurred with the help of three members of APBN. Later, more police from the outpost participated in confirming Sinha’s death and the flow of events.
