At 10:50 am, BNP leaders and activists tried to enter the rally through the west route of the secretariat but were stopped by the police. When the leaders and activists tried to cross the barrier, the police attacked them. The police were seen beating up BNP leaders and activists at the time.
At one point, BNP leaders and activists also began firing bullets at the police. At that moment, BNP leaders and activists began to run.
Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP president’s press wing, said that the police had beaten leaders and activists in front of the Shilpakala Academy.
He told Jugantar that the leaders and activists had faced police obstruction in the area as they headed to the demonstration in front of the press club in the morning. The police charged them with sticks if they wanted to cross the barrier.
However, SM Shamim, Ramna Zone Police Deputy Commissioner, said: “I have asked those in chaos to be disciplined to ensure the safety and order of the people.” Nothing happened outside of this.
