Police arrested Ejazul Haque, 19, for allegedly raping a young woman in an attempt to get married. The incident took place at midnight Tuesday at the Rajibpur junction of Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh. The girl’s father filed a rape case at the Ishwarganj Police Station on Wednesday afternoon.
Ejazul Haque is the son of Azizul Haque from the village of Raghunathpur in the Barahit union of the upazila. He currently works as a police officer at the Pubail Police Station in Gazipur.
According to law enforcement sources, police officer Ejazul met the student on Facebook about a year and a half ago. A love story developed between them. Ejazul raped the madrasa student more than once with the promise of marriage. Recently, Ejazul returned home on leave. On this occasion, Ejazul called the student on his mobile phone Tuesday night. He raped her in a bush next to her house. The locals captured Ejazul. After informing the police, they arrested Ejazul around 2 in the afternoon, rescued the raped girl and took her to the police station.
Ishwarganj Police Officer-in-Charge (CO) Mokhlesur Rahman said Ejazul was sent to jail through court at noon after a case was filed in the incident. The student will be sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for a medical examination.
