Police say, among the detained militants. Tanvir Ahmed alias Abu Ibrahim and Md. Zakaria Jamil escaped on January 14 this year during a raid by law enforcement on a hideout of militants in the Ashulia area of the capital. Shaila Sharmin, aka Dipti, 23, Tanvir Ahmed’s wife and militant, was arrested in the raid. A case has been filed against them at the Ashulia Model Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
At a press conference, DIG police said that Tanvir Ahmed’s wife was arrested in January after raiding Tanvir’s home in Ashulia, along with militant books and drone-making equipment. Tanvir is an accused fugitive in the case presented in that incident. He admitted that he was planning a sabotage by making drones. Another defendant, Zakaria Jamil, is the head of the media branch of the new JMB. He used to translate the publications published in Arabic online by IS into Bengali. Jamil is also an accused fugitive in the Ashulia case. Atiqur is a student in the Department of Pharmacy at North South University. He was in charge of new members and fundraising. He was preparing to go to the Middle East to fight for Islam.
Bogra Police Superintendent Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan told a press conference that the Shibganj Police Station was in the process of filing several cases against militants arrested under the Arms, Explosives and Counter-terrorism Act. They will appear in court and will be held in preventive detention for 10 days.
