Law enforcement officers claim that BNP and its affiliate Juba Dal are behind the burning of a car in front of the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan. Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 26 people in 13 cases brought against them for setting buses and government vehicles on fire. They have also been in preventive detention for various periods.
Buses were set on fire at various locations in the capital on Thursday (November 12) within two hours before noon. Later in the afternoon, a call log from BNP’s defense vice president, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, was leaked.
In the call log, a woman was heard informing Nitai Roy by phone about the bus fire. Investigators claim that the voice of the woman who introduced herself as ‘Farida’ is that of Farida Yasmin, a member of the BNP executive committee.
“We have received a call log of a burning bus in various places in the capital,” said a senior DMP official. They are being analyzed. Work is underway to find out the identities of those who spoke. Conversations are similar to call logs and fire incidents.
According to leaked call logs, Farida Yasmin was trapped in the party office after the bus caught fire on Thursday (November 12) and then left with the help of journalists, Nitai told Roy Chowdhury.
Whatever is in the conversation
Narikantha: I am Farida, I have been trapped in the party office for so long. The boy set the car on fire. The press conference was held at 11 o’clock, now it’s too late to get stuck here.
Nitai Roy Chowdhury: Has the car burned? Where?
Narikantha: In front of the party office. All the cars were burned. The RAB-police arrived and surrounded the party office.
Nitai Roy Chowdhury: What car burned down?
Narikantha: No staff cars, police staff cars, they have caught fire.
Nitai Roy Chowdhury: How many cars?
Narikantha: The boys from Juba Dal have set fire.
Nitai Roy Chowdhury: How many cars? A car?
Narikantha: A car.
By the way, a bus caught fire in front of the Awami League office on Bangabandhu avenue in the capital on Thursday. On the same day, the BNP organized a protest procession in Naya Paltan alleging irregularities in the by-elections of the Dhaka-18 and Sirajganj-1 constituencies. At that time a fire broke out on a nearby bus.
Half an hour after the incident, another bus caught fire in front of the Awami League office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital. Later, firefighters and locals controlled the fire. Around the same time, another bus caught fire on the corner of the Secretariat adjacent to the National Press Club. Fires also broke out in Shahbagh Junction, Kamalapur and Motijheel. At night, another bus caught fire in Baddar Pragati Sarani. However, no casualties were reported in these incidents.
When asked about this, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner and Head of the Anti-Terrorism Unit Monirul Islam told reporters: “This call log will serve as important evidence to prove the case. There are similarities between the call log and the fire incident.
He was speaking as a keynote guest at a function at the office of the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) here on Friday.
Monirul Islam said the 2014-15 incidents were similar to the bus fire on Thursday. However, police are investigating who started the fire. Just as people were terrified of the incidents that took place at that time six years ago, city dwellers were terrified of the sudden bus fire on Thursday. This is bound to happen. Police were also surprised by the sudden burning of so many buses. We are working to find out who is involved in these incidents.
On the other hand, when asked about the conversation about the leaked call record, BNP’s defense VP Nitai Roy Chowdhury told Jago News: “I have no statement on this.”
Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Deputy Commissioner for Media and Public Relations. Walid Hossain told Jago News at noon that “nine cases have been recorded in six police stations (Paltan, Motijheel, Shahbagh, Bhatara, Kalabagan and Bangshal) in connection with the arson attack on buses in different parts of the capital on Thursday.”
Police arrested 26 people in connection with the arson on buses in different parts of the Dhaka metropolis. In addition, several teams of police have continued the operation to arrest the other accused fugitive.
