This information was released by the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday.
AHM Jahangir, 6, was infected with the coronavirus. He died on Thursday.
In his message of condolence, Sheikh Hasina recalled Akhm Jahangir’s struggle and organizational skills to establish Bangabandhu’s ideology in difficult times.
He said: “The death of the leader of the Awami League, Jahangir Hossain, has created a vacuum in the political arena of the country.”
The Prime Minister prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased soul and conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
AHM Jahangir was elected as a Member of Parliament four times from the Patuakhali-3 constituency (Galachipa-Dashmina). He was Minister of State for Textiles in the Sheikh Hasina government in 1996.
Akhm Jahangir, a former student at Dhaka University, has been involved in politics since his student days. He was general secretary of the Chhatra League in 1981-83. He later joined the Awami League and became a Member of Parliament in 1991, 1996 and 2001.
After the state of emergency was declared in 2008, Akhm Jahangir’s name also emerged in the Awami League as a reformist. As a result, he was not nominated for the party in the 2008 elections.
Later, when he admitted to having acted badly for his work, he was re-elected in the 2014 elections and became a member of Parliament.
Although he was not nominated in the last parliamentary elections, he was appointed to the central committee of the Awami League.
