Sanctions are likely to be imposed on Turkey in the Mediterranean debate. The decision may be made at a meeting of European foreign ministers in the European Union on December 10.

A meeting was held on Monday between the foreign ministers of several European Union countries, during which there were lengthy discussions about imposing sanctions on Turkey, Deutsche Welle reported.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Moss said there was no way Turkey could behave without imposing sanctions on it. The foreign ministers will meet again on the 10th. That is where the decision can be made.

France also wants the EU to impose sanctions on Turkey. Recently there has been a controversy between Turkey and France about the murder of teachers in France. Since then, France has demanded that sanctions be imposed on Turkey.

The European Union could suspend arms trade with Turkey if sanctions are imposed. Penalties can also be imposed on oil and minerals.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned that the implementation of plans or maps will not be allowed in the eastern Mediterranean except Turkey.

He said that any plan to deprive Turkey of its rights in the region would not be acceptable.
