A sedition case has been brought in Rajshahi against four leaders, including the adviser to the BNP president, Mizanur Rahman Minu. Advocate Mosabbirul Islam, secretary of legal affairs for the Rajshahi Metropolitan Awami League, brought the case alleging that he had threatened to assassinate the prime minister and made anti-state remarks at a BNP divisional rally on March 2.

In addition to Mizanur Rahman Minu, the organizing secretary of the BNP, Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, the president of the Rajshahi metropolitan BNP, Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, and the general secretary, Shafiqul Islam Milon, have also been indicted in the petition filed with the district magistrate on Tuesday morning.

AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, President and Mayor of the Metropolitan Awami League, gave details of the case at a press conference at the Rajshahi Metropolitan Awami League office this afternoon.

Lawyer Mosabbirul Islam, who was present at the press conference, said that he had lodged a complaint against Minu and four others with the district magistrate and requested recognition. If the request is approved by the Ministry of the Interior, it will be recorded as a case of sedition.

According to the petition, the BNP held a divisional rally in Rajshahi on March 2. The demonstration was held under the chairmanship of the Chairman of Mahanagar BNP, Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, and the Secretary General, Shafiqul Haque Milon. At the rally, Mizanur Rahman Minu publicly threatened in the presence of leaders, activists, journalists and law enforcement officials with the nefarious intention of overthrowing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government as planned. He said, ‘Hasina, be ready, tonight, tomorrow morning I won’t be yours Don’t you remember seventy-five years?

The petition further stated that after Minu’s announcement, extremism spread among BNP leaders and activists. Some leaders and activists broadcast the speech live on Facebook. BNP central leader Ruhul Qudus Talukder Dulu and others made similar statements at the rally, creating hatred and threatening to overthrow the elected government headed by Sheikh Hasina through illegal conspiracies. They have committed treason by publicly announcing and threatening to topple the elected government, including the assassination of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Which is dangerous and threatening to the security and sovereignty of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, president and municipal mayor of the Metropolitan Awami League, told a press conference: “After receiving the request, the district magistrate investigated the allegations and sent a report to the police commissioner. The report of the police investigation will go to the Ministry of the Interior through the district magistrate. The case will be registered after obtaining approval from there. This process will take two to three days to complete.

Mayor Liton said: “A 72-hour ultimatum was given to BNP leaders, including Mizanur Rahman Minu, to apologize at the Metropolitan Awami League protest meeting on March 3. The ultimatum ended on March 8. Last Sunday, Mizanur Rahman Minu apologized and issued a statement expressing regret. As a result, the metropolitan Awami League decided to bring a sedition case against four BNP leaders, including Minu, for not apologizing.

Mahanagar Awami League Vice President Bir Muktijoddha Mir Iqbal, Nowsher Ali, General Secretary Dablu Sarkar, Organization Secretary Mir Istiaq Ahmed Lemon and others were also present at the press conference.

Mizanur Rahman Minu expressed regret.

Meanwhile, the adviser to the president of the BNP, Mizanur Rahman Minu, has expressed regret at the contempt of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the ‘assassination’ of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He expressed his regret in a statement sent to the media from Rajshahi Mahanagar BNP’s email on Sunday.

Earlier, the 72-hour ultimatum tied by the metropolitan Awami League to apologize to Minu ended on Saturday night. Although he did not apologize within the stipulated time, he expressed his regret the next day. When contacted, Mizanur Rahman Minu admitted to sending the statement.

Meanwhile, the metropolitan Awami League decided to file a case against Minu as the ultimatum period expired before Minu sent out a statement. The topic was discussed on the talk show on Sunday, March 7. The president of the Awami Metropolitan League and the mayor of the city AHM Khairuzzaman Liton were present at the discussion. At that meeting, it was decided to bring a case against Minu.

Meanwhile, in a statement sent to the media, Mizanur Rahman Minu mentioned: “I apologize to those who have been injured and shocked by my statement.”

Minu further said: ‘I was born in this metropolis and I have been serving the people of Rajshahi for a long time with political devotion. I have sided with all movements, including the anti-authoritarian Ershad movement. Therefore, it is not natural for me to make offensive comments directed at an individual or a group. So I urge everyone not to look for conspiracies in my speech.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mizanur Rahman Minu addressed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the BNP’s Rajshahi divisional rally. Don’t you remember seventy-five? At that rally, Minu also mocked Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation. The metropolitan Awami League erupted in protest. The next day, the party organized a protest rally. Since that rally, the president of the Nagar Awami League, AHM Khairuzzaman, gave Liton Minu a 72-hour ultimatum. Lytton announced that during this time, Minu filed a lawsuit against him if he did not apologize.

Furthermore, Fazle Hossain Badsha, general secretary of the Bangladesh Workers’ Party and member of parliament for the Rajshahi-2 (Sadar) constituency, in a letter of protest demanded immediate action against Minu. Minu was demanded to be arrested at the Mahanagar Workers’ Party protest rally.

Earlier on October 12, 2019, at a protest rally in Rajshahi Mahanagar BNP, Minu compared Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Awami League was still protesting in Rajshahi. He was asked to apologize for insulting the prime minister. After that, the former mayor of the city, Minu, appeared on Facebook Live and expressed his pain.

This time, the general secretary of the Awami League, Obaidul Quader, also reacted sharply to the sarcasm of Bangabandhu and the Prime Minister and another suggestive speech on August 15. He spoke on the subject last Friday and Saturday. Obaidul Quader also raised questions about Minu’s courage.

Meanwhile, Fazle Hossain Badsha, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Workers’ Party, said: “This is a very personal statement from Mizanur Rahman Minu.” We want to hear what the BNP has to say about it. He said: ‘Mizanur Rahman Minu has helped the militancy in the past. That is proven. So, as in the past, it is still necessary to collect information through intelligence agencies on whether you are involved in militancy or conspiracy politics. We request the Ministry of the Interior to investigate the matter.
