Only a handful of states have a few votes left to determine the final outcome of this year’s US presidential election. They also fight fiercely.
Democrat Joe Biden, who has won 264 electoral votes so far in Michigan and Wisconsin, has multiple options, but incumbent President Donald Trump, who received 214 votes, will have to win in almost every remaining state, AFP reported.
To win the presidency in the United States, a candidate must receive at least 270 electoral votes. Pennsylvania is more important in terms of electoral votes divided by population than the remaining five states. There are also smaller but important states like Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina, and Alaska.
Due to the coronavirus, voting by mail is high in this election and the vote count is taking a bit longer. However, although it is late, the vote-by-mail goes in favor of the Democrats.
If Biden can maintain victory in Arizona and win the state by winning six electoral votes in Nevada, his quota of 260 will be reached. And in that, he can claim himself the winner.
But Trump has a lot to calculate. If he can maintain his winning streak in North Carolina and Georgia but, losing in Arizona, he must also win in Nevada along with Biden’s home state of Pennsylvania.
Even if Alaska wins with Pennsylvania and gets three electoral votes, it won’t be enough. Some of the expected results have been reversed and his path to victory has become friendly.
Nevada
If Biden wins in Nevada, no more calculations will work. Democrats hope Nevada will get six electoral votes. Extreme competition is sweeping this Las Vegas state. After counting 6 percent of the votes, Biden received 49.3 percent of the votes. And Trump got 48.6 percent of the vote.
State officials said Wednesday they will have to wait until Thursday for the results.
Pennsylvania
The state is expected to take longer to announce the results of this election. His 20 electoral votes could annul the electoral results at any time.
In Pennsylvania, which is inhabited by industrialists, 69 percent of the vote has been counted. Trump is ahead with 50.6 percent of the vote. And Biden got 47.1% of the vote. However, as the vote count progresses, the gap between the two candidates is narrowing.
Ballots awaiting recount are expected to be sent to Biden. State officials expect the count to be completed on Friday.
However, on Wednesday, Trump supporters reported a case of stopping vote counting here. They allege that election officials prohibited Republican “observers” from going within 25 feet of the polling station.
North Carolina
Despite Biden’s strong position in the state, Trump is more likely to get 15 electoral votes in North Carolina. The vote count here is almost over.
With 95 percent of the votes counted, Trump received 50.1 percent of the votes and Biden 48.6 percent.
The state has the opportunity to count postal ballots mailed on or before Election Day through November 12.
Georgia
Biden received unexpectedly good votes in the southeastern state. While Trump is still ahead in this traditionally Republican stronghold, the gap here is very small. There are 16 electoral votes in this state.
Here 95 percent of the votes have been counted. Biden won 49.1 percent of the vote, while Trump won 49.6 percent. The American media is taking this gap very seriously.
Final results from the state are expected in the early hours of Thursday.
Alaska
Alaska, the state with just three electoral votes, counted just 50 percent of the votes. Trump received 72.1 percent of the vote, while Biden received 33.56 percent.
