ASI Raihanul Islam, who was fired for gang raping a schoolgirl in Rangpur, has been arrested by PBI. He was reportedly arrested on Wednesday night.
Defendants Abul Kalam Azad and Babul Hossain have made confessional statements in court. The statements of the two were taken in the court of Judge Jahangir Alam on Wednesday night.
Previously, the testimony of the tortured schoolgirl was taken in the same court under article 22. PBI SI investigating officer Saiful Islam confirmed this.
Sumaiya Akhter Meghla and Survi Akhter, who were arrested for assisting in the gang rape of a schoolgirl, refused to give confessional statements when they were brought to court on Tuesday. The court later sent them to Rangpur Central Jail.
According to police sources, the tortured schoolgirl was taken to the court of Judicial Magistrate Jahangir Alam at 5 pm on Wednesday in the middle of strict secrecy and police security. The tortured student was reportedly raped by Detective Raihanul Islam on October 23. The next day, Saturday 24 October, Ashrita Sumaiya Akhter described to the court the details of how she was gang-raped at Meghla’s home. Judge Jahangir Alam recorded his statement in section 22.
Later, the defendants Abul Kalam Azad and Babul Hossain were taken to the same court at night and gave confessional statements under article 164. The court recorded their statement.
The investigator on the case, PBI SI Saiful Islam, confirmed the information. He said that the defendant had admitted responsibility for the rape. On the day of the incident, Sumaiya Akhter Meghla and Survi Akhter called them as clients. They later told the court that the schoolgirl was raped.
According to PBI and sources in the case, ASI Raihanul Islam of the DB Metropolitan Police had a love affair with a ninth-class student at Mainakuthi Kachutari in the Rangpur metropolitan area. Raihanul took the girl for a walk on the morning of October 23 based on a love story. Later, Sumaiya Parveen, a tenant of Shahidullah Miah’s home in the Kadarkerpool area of Baharkachna in the ancient city, called her at Meghla’s home and raped her.
Later, the student left the house at 9 pm and again went to Sumaiya Parveen Meghla’s house and sought shelter. The next day, on the night of Saturday, October 24, Meghla called two young men to the house with the help of his girlfriend Survi Akhtar and gave them the girl in exchange for money. There he was gang-raped and fell ill.
After fleeing the scene, the victim arrived in the city on Sunday, October 25 to search for Raihanul. When the patrol police became suspicious there, the police called the girl and questioned her. The police admitted him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for treatment. Subsequently, the police arrested the defendants from the Rangpur and Lalmonirhat areas.
The student’s father became the plaintiff in the incident and filed a rape case at the Haragachh Police Station charging two unidentified individuals, including police officer Raihanul Islam alias Raju. The case was handed over from the Haragachh Police Station to the Rangpur Police Investigation Bureau (PBI) on Monday.
Rangpur PBI Police Superintendent ABM Zakir Hossain said that Raihanul had been arrested. So far five people have been arrested.
