The parliamentary committee feared that the recently opened Itna-Mithamin-Ashtagram (Allweather Road) unmanned highway would be disrupted. The concern was expressed at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on road transport and bridges held in the parliament building on Wednesday (October 14), according to a press release from the parliamentary secretariat.
The committee thanked the Prime Minister for inaugurating the Itna-Mithamin-Ashtagram highway to fulfill the long dream of the people of the Haor region. The meeting was informed that a popular tourist area has been created around the road. But since there are no houses around the road, there is a risk of security breaches at any time. Later in the meeting, the ministry was recommended to take necessary action on general issues, including ensuring road safety.
The latest status and implementation progress of 23 ongoing development projects under the Dhaka Zone of the Department of Roads and Highways was discussed. The Ministry is recommended to take the necessary measures to complete the projects within the stipulated time while maintaining quality.
The meeting also recommended that the ministry form an investigative committee and report on the issue of increasing the Dhaleshwari bridge toll lease three times and handing it over to the same tenant.
The meeting was informed that due to the global corona epidemic, Metrorail’s work has resumed in full swing and necessary measures have been taken to ensure that Metrorail employees can work in accordance with hygiene standards.
Span No. 32 was installed after a long time due to strong currents in the Padma and the rest will be installed as soon as possible, the meeting was informed.
Unnecessary speed breaker removal zones on highways and highway based information are presented at the meeting.
Chairman of the Committee. The Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Obaidul Quader, joined the meeting held in Sangsad Bhaban under the chairmanship of Ekabbar Hossain online. Also, other committee members Enamul Haque, Md. Hasibur Rahman Swapan, Maryland. Abu Zahir, Rezwan Ahmad Tawfiq, Sheikh Salahuddin, Syed Abu Hossain and Rabia Alim attended the meeting.
