Pakistan has imposed travel bans on 12 countries to prevent coronavirus infections. The country’s civil aviation authority (CAA) has announced that a new strain of coronavirus found in South Africa and Brazil has recently spread to Pakistan, according to local media Dawn. The different countries have been divided into categories A, B and C.

According to the notification, a total travel ban will be in effect in 12 Category C countries from March 23 to April 5. However, expats with Pakistani passports, expats with Pakistani national identity cards, and former Pakistani citizens will be exempt from the ban.

Category C countries are Botswana, Brazil, Colombia, Comoros, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Peru, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia.

Initially, the UK was placed in Category C, but was later modified and moved to B.

Passengers from Category A countries do not need a coronavirus test before entering Pakistan. Category A countries include Australia, Bhutan, China, Fiji, Japan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Mongolia, Mauritania, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, and Togo. The guidelines state that countries that are not in category A or C will be included in category B. For countries in categories B and C, a negative coronavirus test is mandatory to travel to Pakistan.
