The Department of Drug Administration has approved the import and emergency use of the coronavirus vaccine invented by the University of Oxford in the UK.
Deputy director and spokesperson for the department. Ayub Hossain told Prothom Alo that the Oxford and AstraZeneca vaccines have been approved for use. He said the approval was given in response to Beximco’s request. Registration is a long process. For this reason, NOC (Certificate of No Objection) has been issued after Beximco’s application.
This approval was necessary to bring and use the Oxford vaccine in Bangladesh. The government, the pharmaceutical company Beximco and the Seram Institute have already reached an agreement with the Seram Institute of India to purchase 30 million doses of vaccine.
Beximco Managing Director (MD) Nazmul Hasan told reporters today at his Gulshan residence that the vaccine would be brought into the country from India within 30 days of approval and registration of its use by the drug administration in Bangladesh. He said they sent all kinds of documents for his record last Thursday. The bank guarantee has been transferred to the government.
